Chapter 3

7. What is genre? How does genre affect the way movies are made and received?

From my understanding, genre is like the main topic of what the film is going to be. Like for example, action thriller, horror, and others. Genre refers to the categorisation of narrative films by the stories they tell and the ways they tell them. Genre affects a lot, for example, if a person is easily scared or is afraid of the dark, automatically they wouldn't bother to watch Horror movies, they would prefer watching action movies or probably comedy. Genre really affects how people see the movie.

8. What are the six sets of conventions used to define and classify film genres?

The six sets of conventions are:
- Theme
- Setting
- Presentation
- Character Types
- Story Formulas
- Stars

9. What are the formal and narrative elements common to each of the six movie genres describe in the chapter?

The formal and narrative elements common to each of the six movie genres would have narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, sound, and editing.

10. How does animation differ from the other three basic types of movies?

Animation is regularly classified as a distinct type of motion picture. Animation employs different mechanisms to create the multitude of still images that motion picture require, animation is just a different form of movie making..
